"A Motown Christmas" will be kicking off Macon's holiday season Saturday night at the Grand Opera House with a family-oriented concert featuring classic Motown style with many Christmas favorites.

"You should come and see the show because it's fun," said Glenn Robbie, musical director and founder of "The Motown Experience." "It's a feel-good show and a really a great way to kick off the holiday season and get in the holiday spirit."

"The Motown Experience" is assembled from past and present members of three of Motown's most legendary groups.

"The group is authentic Motown artists and the show harkens back to the day when the polished Motown acts were on stage," he said. "It's an old-school feel with the type of singing and dancing that set the bar for all of the artists that came after. It's going to be a great night with Motown favorites and Christmas favorites with a Motown spin."

Former members of the Temptations, the Miracles and the Capitols will perform hits from contemporaries like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops and the Jackson Five.

"You'll hear a lot of favorites," Robbie said. "This show is so much fun because it combines Motown's greatest hits that everyone knows and remembers and has a story to go with, and everyone's favorite holiday classics. The show features the trademark dazzling choreography, and unforgettable harmonies all performed in that memorable, soulful Motown style. It's a potent and wonderful combination."

The stop in Macon is part of the groups' annual holiday tour, which includes performances in Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Several of the group members have performed in Macon before, but this is the group's first trip together.

"This is a group of seasoned performers, though, and we are looking forward to visiting," he said.

The performance is family-friendly and perfect for all ages.

"It's jam-packed with impeccable harmonies, dazzling choreography, and those timeless Motown grooves that everyone knows and loves. You can choose to dance, sing along or just sit back (if you can) and watch the show," Robbie said. "Every performance contains that unmistakable Motown stamp, including flashy suits, great singing and dancing, and a polished show that is simply unforgettable. ... You won't be able to keep your toes from tapping."

The group is offering a meet and greet before the show for an additional $15, allowing for autographs and other memorabilia. These tickets are limited and must be purchased by calling 912-399-7799.
