FRIDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

Though CBDB is only one letter away from CBGB, the four letters in the name of the iconic New York club that was a breeding ground for punk rock, don't get the wrong impression. These self-proclaimed "Purveyors of Joyfunk" are bringing their groovy tunes and noodle-inducing jams -- not leather jackets and safety pins -- all the way from Alabama for this one. In their estimation, "joyfunk" is a heady amalgamation of progressive rock, funk, folk and jam fusion that "result(s) in an original and unavoidably danceable sound." They've shared bills with Umphreys McGee, Blues Traveler, Earphunk, the Wailers, B.o.B., the Revivalists, Col. Bruce Hampton, Moon Taxi and other bands of that ilk, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. 10:30 p.m. $5.

"A Motown Christmas"

SATURDAY AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE

The arrival of the holiday season in Macon means that there's a great lineup of celebratory events coming to the Grand Opera House. The first installment in that lineup is "A Motown Christmas," and the band assembled for the show includes members of the Temptations, the Miracles and the Capitols. Between those three names, there are dozens of Billboard hits, numerous Grammys and many songs that can comfortably claim a place in the Great American Songbook. They'll be presenting some of Motown's biggest hits along with holiday favorites presented in that legendary, harmonic style. 7:30 p.m. $37-$57.

Todd Nance and Friends with Col. Bruce Hampton and the Madrid Express

SATURDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE

Todd Nance, drummer and vocalist for Athens jam band favorites Widespread Panic, has some mighty fine friends, and he'll be bringing a selection of them down to the Cox Capitol Theatre, including Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz (Widespread Panic), Daniel Hutchens (Bloodkin), Sam Holt (Outformation, Sam Holt Band), Jon Mills (Bloodkin) and John Neff (Drive-By Truckers, Bloodkin). Col. Bruce Hampton also will be joining the bill with his band Madrid Express. Hampton has the uncanny ability to put together some of the finest bands in the business, and this one is no exception. Expect a night of community and revelry from this great group of seasoned musicians that'll be the perfect opportunity to dance off that second helping of Thanksgiving turkey and gravy. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $15-$360.

2015 Christmas on the Dock Series

SUNDAY AT GATEWAY PARK

Rhythm and Jazz on the Dock presents a very special installment of their concert series. Christmas on the Dock is a yuletide version of the popular Gateway Park event and will feature musical performances by the Rev3rd Jazz Trio, Blak Pearl and Dean Brown. DeeJay Phi will be spinning, the hot apple cider will be flowing and the marshmallows will be roasting thanks to provided fireplaces. In the spirit of the season, the event is also a chance to help those less fortunate. There will be spots available to donate presents, toys and clothing. 5 p.m. Free.

Mendelssohn Sextet

MONDAY AT MERCER UNIVERSITY'S FICKLING HALL

Mercer's Fabian Concert Series exists to bring internationally recognized artists to Macon. This installment in the series features the McDuffie Center for Strings' own Amy Schwartz Moretti and Peter Lloyd, center alum Tim Richardson, cellist Edward Arron, and Che-Yen Chen, a violist from the faculty of the University of Southern California who is making his first appearance in Macon. They'll be presenting Mendelssohn's Sextet in D Major, Op. 110, a piece that the New York Times has called "a dazzingly indulgent treat." The program also includes Bach's Goldberg Variations for string trio. 7:30 p.m. $12.
