Mercer University's Fabian Concert Series spotlights Mendelssohn, Bach
The Fabian Concert Series at Mercer University continues in its mission of providing chamber music at the highest level on Tuesday with the Mendelssohn Sextet.
"Thank goodness for Mendelssohn and his revival of Bach's music that most of modern society is familiar with the genius and emotion of Bach," said Amy Schwartz Moretti, director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. "On this program I thought it would be such a great combination of Bach with Mendelssohn. Bach's Goldberg Variations is a pinnacle work for keyboard, and since we are a string center, it works extraordinarily well in this combination."
Violinist Moretti will be joined by Peter Lloyd on double bass, Edward Arron on cello, Che-Yen Chen on viola and Tim Richardson on viola, plus internationally known pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.
"The Mendelssohn Sextet highlights the finger work and artistry of the pianist who plays it. I can't wait to hear Anne-Marie in this piece," Moretti said. "I hope everyone will enjoy hearing this concert as much as we will enjoy playing it!"
