In honor of Duane Allman's birthday, his life and music will be celebrated at Skydog 69 on Sunday in Central City Park.

The tenth annual celebration will begin with an unofficial band, the Young Brothers, a group of young men who play together only once or twice a year and "are in touch with Duane's music, what he was playing and how he was playing it," said event director Glenn Harrell.

A tribute to local musicians Tim and Greg Brooks, who died this year, will include performances by E.G. Kight and Paul Hornsby, and the Skydog Award will be presented to Kyler Mosley, Greg Potter and Kirk West. Guitarist Dave Perkins also will perform.

"He is a professor at Vanderbilt University who is just a whale of a guitar player," Harrell said. "He will play a few pieces with musicians he grew up with and played with here in Central City Park and a few with our rhythm section."

Skydog is a family-friendly event, and guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets. The canned goods collected as admission will benefit the Macon Rescue Mission and provides for its needs for an entire year.
