Crescent Moon Dogs with African Americana and Mopeland

FRIDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

There's a good deal of new local music being released this weekend, and Crescent Moon Dogs are first out of the gate with their record release party at the Hummingbird. Their sound is filled with "three part grungy vocal harmonies, guitar-driven, bass-fueled riffs, (and) classic rock vibe infused with jazzy, psychedelic grunge." Something for everyone, it seems. They're joined by African Americana, Middle Georgia's go-to act for dark, brooding, back-alley electronica, as well as Mopeland, who will be importing the prog-rock all the way up from the nether regions of Al-beeen-y, Georgia. 9:30 p.m. $5.

Best of Georgia Roots Rock Showcase

SATURDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

"Roots music" is a term that's been tossed around to describe a wide range of music, making its definition ambiguous at best, but to Daniel Nesmith, singer and multi-instrumentalist for Back City Woods, the meaning is simple: roots music is "music with real soul behind it." With that in mind, he's put together a bill of some of the best roots bands Georgia has to offer for the second annual Best of Georgia Roots Rock Showcase, including Whiskey Gentry, Back City Woods, Fester Hagood, Uncle Dave Griffin and the Pine Box Dwellers. As a bonus, Back City Woods will be giving away a single from their forthcoming album to the first 100 people in the door, so get there early. 6 p.m. $7 pre-sale, $10 day of show.

The Revivalists with the Marcus King Band

SATURDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE

How does a "dark, heavy rock manifesto driven by a steel guitar line that borders on electronica" sound to you? Sound like a confusing, cacophonous mess? It sure does to me, but apparently not to the Revivalists, who eschew preconceived notions about a particular sound when crafting their songs. They're known for their live shows, which have been honed over years of touring to inspire an energy and fervor that gives credence to their name. They're looking to connect with the audience, to provide something more than simple, passive entertainment. I'm picturing Pete Townsend walking down the aisle in Ken Russell's adaptation of "Tommy." The Revivalists wanna save your rock 'n' roll soul. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $10-$12.

Dalmatian with Triathalon

WEDNESDAY AT OGLETHORPE ARTISTS SPACE

Macon's Dalmatian has a new EP, and they're throwing a house party to celebrate. In their words, it's gonna be "wild, crazy, sensual and very respectful of neighbors." Incidentally, that seems like a fitting enough description for the music that Dalmatian makes. They'll be joined by Savannah's Triathalon, who also have a new record ready to go. It's reverb-drenched, sunshine-y-sad post-punk -- if post-punk was a mid-'90s phenomenon, that is. In this writer's humble and extremely non-objective opinion, they put on one of the best shows to come through Macon in the last little while at the Cox Capitol Theatre when they opened for Reptar, and the few singles that have been released off their new record signal that they're only getting better. This'll be one not to miss. Stay tuned to Dalmatian's Facebook page for the details. 8 p.m.

Will Hoge with Sundy Best

THURSDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE

Will Hoge is a master storyteller, able to translate fleeting moments and ephemera into a well-crafted song. He's crafted many and collected plenty of stories over his years spent relentlessly touring -- whether it's for his own sold-out shows or stints opening for the likes of Dierks Bentley or the Eli Young Band. Hoge plays music for the average American; he speaks to the Common Man alternately through simple, acoustic numbers and rollicking rock 'n' roll. Duo Sundy Best gets the night started with sweet harmonies that have been refined by playing together since childhood. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $15.
