Celebrate #Floctober this weekend in Macon
Greetings, everyone! Here's to hoping that you had a great #FlocTober day yesterday and you're ready for a pretty good Friday.
For those who don't know, every year I re-name "October" to "FlocTober" and release new music, videos or something special for all of my fans and supporters. This year, I did just that by releasing something new every Thursday on my website, www.FlocoTorres.com.
Since I'm in town until the first weekend in November, I've been trying to keep myself busy with what's going around here.
As much as I would love to go support my boys Back City Woods at the Crazy Bull tonight, I was planning to wear my old school G-Unit shirt and yell obscenities out of a low-rider before I walked up to security (ha!). I've learned personally that the staff there doesn't like this, so I encourage anyone who doesn't partake in this type of behavior to go check out the show.
Back City Woods is working on a new full-length album, as well as getting ready for the second annual Best of Georgia Roots Rock Showcase in November. They'll be on the new stage upstairs and also will have Frazier Band, out of Nashville, joining them.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Macon is hosting a Food Truck Festival with some of the best food trucks in Georgia posting up at the Macon Coliseum. I may make an appearance here looking for good tacos and also to hear some of the live music.
If there's time, I want to stop by the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom to see the "Hummingbird 5X" as a part of the Big Bird Bash. This contest is for the daring (insane). You drink a car bomb and run around the block five times. The winner is whoever returns first after drinking all five carbombs. Have your snapchat camera ready, folks. Afterward, the Bird Bash line-up will include Tash and the Boys, Far From Over, Dirty Doves and more.
I'll be headed back to the Coliseum around 7:30 p.m. because hockey is back in Macon! Forget those teams of the past, the Macon Mayhem is the newest member of the Southern Professional Hockey League and is getting ready for their home opener Oct. 23.
On Saturday they'll be playing a pre-season game against their rivals, the Columbus Cottonmouths. Pre-season games are always fun because players are still fighting for spots on the team, so I'm sure some good hits will be in order. On Sunday, I'll be stopping by Fresh Produce Records again for DJ B3's fifth installment of his Sunday Funday series. The "dancehall edition" will feature hip-hop artist Juss SaySo and Frankie D as well as DJ B3, FVK (Fresh Valley Kings), DJ Uh-Oh and more.
We all know that sometimes the underground is where the real fun goes down.
