Warner Robins Little Theatre brings back ‘70s with prize-winning play, ‘Crimes of the Heart’

It all started with a vision by director Terry Minyard, and before you could say “action,” the Warner Robins Little Theatre’s stage looked just your mother’s 1970s kitchen.

Minyard and the stage crew started with an empty stage and have done everything from laying down a floor to hanging wallpaper. The sink and the refrigerator in the installed cabinets actually work, as does as the staircase that leaves the stage.

“We just wanted to try and make it look as much as possible like a home in the early ’70s,” Minyard said.

The ‘70s home on a stage is all part of Warner Robins Little Theatre’s second show of the season -- “Crimes of the Heart,” the 1981 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Beth Henley.

“Crimes of the Heart” tells the story of the struggles of three sisters in a dysfunctional family who reunite when the grandfather who raised them after their mother’s suicide is in the hospital. “Each sister has her own demons,” Minyard said. “The show evolves around those demons and how they overcome them.”

The three sisters are Lennie, played by Mary Greene; Meg, played by Christina Fletcher; and Babe, played by Emma Greene. Sarah Lynch plays the sister’s cousin Chick; Paul McDuffie portrays Doc, a long ago love interest of Meg’s; and Chris Hickman plays attorney Barnette Lloyd.
