American Aquarium and Radio Birds

FRIDAY AT THE COX CAPITOL THEATRE

American Aquarium are road warriors. They’ve been at it for nearly a decade now, playing songs that a life on the road inspires -- subjects like heartbreak, heartache, lost love, long nights and the inevitable trembling hangover are all prevalent. The band’s persistence on the road has paid off; everywhere they go, they’re greeted with a dedicated cult following of folks who know all the words, and they’ll be shouting them at the top of their lungs at singer BJ Barham. The band is touring behind their excellent new record, “Wolves,” which was produced by Megafaun’s Brad Cook during a 20-day stay at Asheville’s Echo Mountain Studios. 8 p.m. $12-$200.

The Good Doctor

FRIDAY AT THE HUMMINGBIRD STAGE AND TAPROOM

The Good Doctor knows how to party. This Auburn, Alabama, band made up of five multi-instrumentalists combines funk, rock, hip-hop, neo-soul and blues for a hip-shakin’ good time. Their set mixes a variety of covers with solid original songs. This show will suit fans of bands as diverse as Snarky Puppy, Steely Dan, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Earth, Wind & Fire. 9:30 p.m. $5.

Planet of the Abts

SATURDAY AT THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND MUSEUM AT THE BIG HOUSE

Planet of the Abts is anchored by Matt Abts and Jorgen Carlsson, the rhythm section of Southern rock favorites Govt. Mule, and rounded out by Swedish guitarist and singer T-Bone Anderson. The band’s global influences and their combined three decades of touring and songwriting make for an eclectic mix of genres, and the picaresque backyard of the Big House is the perfect setting for an evening of great music. 6 p.m. $15.

Macon Symphony Orchestra: “Pathos and Passion”

SATURDAY AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE

Macon native Roderick Cox returns to his hometown to lead the Macon Symphony Orchestra through the “unexpected turns in life and love” represented in Beethoven’s Leonore Overture Op. 3, No 72a, Mendelssohn’s Suite from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Op.61 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Cox is currently the assistant conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra, and has earned numerous awards from his work across the nation, proving that he is one of the country’s most gifted young composers. Conductor chat at 6:30p.m.; concert at 7:30 p.m. $15-$40.

Outshyne with Special Guest Colby Dee

SATURDAY AT THE CRAZY BULL

South Carolina’s Outshyne describe their music as having a “country feel with rock overtones.” The group is composed of high school friends who originally had no ambition other than getting together after work to play, but after some success, the band decided to make it their full-time gig in 2010. Since then, they’ve played with modern country favorites such as Eric Church and Colt Ford, and most recently were selected as the openers for Dwight Yoakam’s current tour. They’ll be joined by Colby Dee, the young singer behind hits like “Rag Top Girl” and “He Don’t Know.” 8 p.m. $5.
