Universal Sigh with Cordovas

Friday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Universal Sigh describes their music as “metamorphic.” You know, like when you wake up in the morning and you suddenly find yourself unable to turn over because you’re a human-sized cockroach, so you just decide to write a series of epic poems detailing the history of the world. That’s no small task for a two-hour set at the Hummingbird. But with their jam-infused rock, Universal Sigh can do it. Nashville country rockers Cordovas open the transformation. 10 p.m. $5.

The Pinx with Driven Towards Chaos

Saturday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Atlanta’s the Pinx have proudly flown the flag of stoner rock ‘n’ roll for quite some time now. If you dig hot chicks and Trans Ams, their music provides the perfect soundtrack for such an occasion. Classic tunes for classic times. Driven Towards Chaos will get the party started, returning to the Hummingbird stage for the first time since the Bird’s 11-year anniversary celebration. 10 p.m. $5.

Saturday at Wild Wing Cafe

Hot wings and hot covers all night long. Revisit the daze of yore when you were the king of the field, the head of the cheerleading squad, making out in the backseat to the sweet sounds of Third Eye Blind, Sister Hazel and Smashmouth. You were an all-star back then. Here’s your chance to do it again. So crimp your hair, squeeze into that cheerleading outfit; put on the football helmet. You’re gonna need it after that bucket of beer. It’s the ‘90s all over again. 9:30 p.m. Free.

Steve Vai

Monday at the Cox Capitol Theatre

Widdly widdly wah. Lasers. Guitars with handles inside. Fan-blown hair and scorching guitar solos. Sound awesome to you? Well it should. Widdly widdly wah. Bring on the sweet licks. Steve Vai famously took guitar lessons as a teen from Joe Satriani and later played with the best of them all, Frank Zappa. He’s bringing his 25th anniversary tour — dubbed “Passion and Warfare” — through Macon to celebrate the release of the album of the same name. Doors: 7 p.m./Show: 8 p.m. $32-$36.
