Mediterranean food is some of the healthiest in the world, and Macon now has another place that can help you eat well — both deliciously and healthily.

Medi’s Mediterranean Fusion on Bass Road has streamlined its menu to make ordering easy. Rolls, wraps and roti are each $6.95. The rolls are made of your choice of vegetarian options like falafel, hummus or tabbouleh or a protein like chicken, ham, pastrami, roast beef or turkey, then wrapped up with a Mediterranean spread, lettuce and tomato in fresh lavash bread.

Wraps are made on soft pita, with house tzatziki, taniha spread, purple cabbage, lettuce and tomato with your protein choice of chicken shawarma, beef and lamb shawarma, falafel (deep fried chickpea patties), grilled chicken or tandoori chicken. We wished ours had come with a little more meat, but we also were there at the end of the day with a big group.

The rotis are wholemeal flatbread filled with vegetarian sabzis (stews) like potato and cauliflower aloo, chickpea chana masala, kidney bean rajma masala, just grilled veggies or — my favorite — paneer tikka masala, a fresh cheese simmered in a spicy, creamy sauce. Four chutneys are available to go with it, as well as rice.

Sides are available for an additional $3 for a half order or $5 for a full order. Our order of hummus was quite generous, topped with a quality olive oil and served with pita crackers (I prefer soft pita, but I’m open to new things). Other choices include babaganoush, lentils, pasta, tabbouleh, dolmades and fatoosh salad. There’s also a daily soup for $3.

Our favorite part of our visit, though, was dessert. A beautiful refrigerated cabinet greets you at the door, filled with every type of homemade baklava. We had pistachio, walnut and cashew versions on our visit, but it changes regularly. The owner also makes lovely date balls, mixed with mild Indian spices and rolled in chocolate, coconut or nuts.

If you have a taste for the exotic — or you’re trying to eat healthy without sacrificing taste — Medi’s is worth a trip.
