Chesapeake Sons

Friday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Chesapeake Sons bring their self-branded “whiskey fueled, home-fried country rock ‘n’ roll” to the Hummingbird stage on Friday night for a foot stomping good time. Hailing from Baltimore originally, they now call Nashville home. These guys are in it to win it and have opened for a wide variety of top notch acts such as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Eric Church and Shooter Jennings. If you’re looking for somewhere to go and let your hair down, this may be the place to be. 10:30 p.m. $5.

Jazz and Arts on Riverdale

Saturday on Riverdale Drive

in Macon

One of the sure signs that fall has arrived in Macon is Jazz and Arts on Riverdale, an annual festival that celebrates local art and good music on one of the city’s most picturesque streets, lined with beautiful historic houses. This year’s 13th annual festival will feature live music from local musicians playing a wide variety of jazz styles. Lauren Meccia and the Mike Frost Band will be the headliners. They’ll provide the soundtrack as attendees are able to sample local artistic fare at the booths that line the streets under trees changing to their autumn colors. Noon-6 p.m. Free.

Caroline Aiken Band

Saturday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Georgia songbird Caroline Aiken should not be an unfamiliar name if you have spent any time in the Peach State. If you are unaware of her talent and history, get out your Googler and look her up. If you’re already familiar with her talents as an instrumentalist and a songwriter, you know where to go on Saturday night. The Macon Brothers Band make their second appearance on the Bird stage to get the evening started. 10:30 p.m. $5.

Ben Arthur

Sunday at the “Wiseblood” House on Bond Street

Music Ambassadors and Field Note Stenographers are both organizations that want you to listen to live music; to really pay attention to it. To have some sort of visceral, intimate experience with an artist. It makes sense that they’re teaming up to bring Ben Arthur to town. He splits his time between writing songs and writing stuff that everyone but the Nobel Prize panel would consider literature. To sweeten the deal, it’s in the living room of one of the coolest historic houses around — the setting for the film adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s “Wiseblood.” 7 p.m. Free.

“Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra”

Thursday at the City Auditorium

Even if the concept of a “rock concerto” may be a bit ambiguous to most, there’s one undeniable fact about this show: this is the result of two monster musicians doing something truly special. This concerto is the product of musician Mike Mills (of R.E.M.) and Grammy-nominated violinist Robert McDuffie, two guys that have been friends since they attended First Presbyterian Church here in Macon when they were still young ‘uns. Don’t let the term “concerto” keep you from enjoying this special moment in Macon music history. This night is for everyone. 8 p.m. $20-$125.
