Esperanza Spalding

Friday at the Cox Capitol Theatre

Last week, Esperanza Spalding was touring South America. This week, she’s playing two dates in Georgia (and only a handful in the South), one of which is here Friday. If that doesn’t impress you, maybe this will: She has performed at the White House several times, as well as at the Oscars, the Grammys and the Nobel Prize ceremony. She’s touring in support of her current record, “Emily’s D+Evolution,” a work that draws influence from everything from David Bowie (an influence amplified by the presence of Tony Visconti’s producing credits on several of the track) to Prince to space cadet jazz that somehow manages to be both experimental and accessible. I can keep going, but I have a word count to worry about. This is one of the greatest shows this town will see in a long time. Don’t miss it. Doors 7 p.m./Show 8 p.m. $25 in advance; $30 day of the show.

Georgia Flood with Gravel Kings

Friday at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom

Brothers Brooks and Lane have been making a racket together for more than a decade and they show no signs of stopping anytime soon. In 2012, the brothers formed what is now known as Georgia Flood, putting together a “high energy show like no other.” Florida-based Americana/folk/roots group Gravel Kings open the show, so be sure to get there early. 10:30 p.m. $5.

St. Francis Day Celebration with Lost Dogs Found and Bryant Johnson

Saturday at St. Francis Episcopal Church

St. Francis has a yearly “blessing of the animals,” and this year the blessing extends to a full day of live music, food and games for the whole family — furry members and all.

To review: The day begins with a blessing of the furry family, followed by several hours of fellowship, games, good food and live music.

What’s not to like? 10 a.m. Free.

American Tales: Mercer Wind Ensemble & First Presbyterian Day School Concert Band

Tuesday at First Presbyterian Day School

The Mercer University Wind Ensemble and the First Presbyterian Day School Concert Band are partnering for a program of all American composers at the Clark Fine Arts Center.

God bless America, indeed. 7:30 p.m. Free.

Terror Pigeon with Real Dom and Cloud Powers

Wednesday at Fresh Produce

Records

Terror Pigeon recently won the coveted “best band website at Bragg Jam” award from the Field Note Stenographers and couldn’t wait to get back to Macon. This Nashville-based group knows how to party and better yet, it knows how to get the crowd moving. Real Dom and Cloud Powers fill out a bill that will be gloriously devoid of social norms, and which may or may not involve confetti. Get weird and dance like nobody’s watching. 9 p.m. $5.
