Cherry Blossom Festival newbies: A pink pony, poodle brighten cloudy first day
Editor’s note: Caitlyn Stroh and Stephen Mays are both newbies to The Telegraph as well as newbies to the Cherry Blossom Festival. They’re going out into the festivities this week and giving us a firsthand account of their CBF experience.
Every little kid in the audience was giddy when the handler brought out the pink pony. Every little kid ... and me.
I ventured out to the Cherry Blossom Festival today to watch the Horses, Horses, Horses! show, which did indeed have a pink, trick-performing pony, and take a little tour around Central City Park. Mainly, I was scoping out what types of funnel cakes were going to be available.
I'm new to Macon so I wasn't sure what to expect. My only measuring stick was the Rose Festival in Thomasville, where I grew up.
This, my Middle Georgians, is a whole new ballgame.
I walked into the festival -- presumably doing "something important" according to the entry folks -- and made a beeline for the horses. After getting lost among all of the food vendors and rides, I found my way to the show area. I showed up for the tail end (ha) of the miniature palomino's performance and watched a rescued Arabian trot around.
And then the star of the show emerged. I was captivated.
Honestly, I could've called it a day after I saw the pink pony. I was that happy.
But I stayed to watch the rest of the show, which was quite fun. Nothing mind-blowing but when the team of six ponies, alleged "stallions," were alternating circus tricks, they had my attention. I highly recommend this show for anyone with young kids.
I walked back through to do a double-take of all the food options. Put the pink margarita and red velvet funnel cake on my to-eat list.
As I was headed out, I stopped by the ribbon cutting ceremony. It was there that I met the pink pony's biggest competition: the pink poodle.
I will be back, Central City Park. And I'm hoping that the camel at the entrance will be pink when I return.
