Cherry Blossom Festival

Bands battle Sunday at Henderson Stadium in Macon

A half-dozen Middle Georgia marching bands will battle it out on the field Sunday at Henderson Stadium.

The Cherry Blossom Festival’s Battle of the Bands also will feature Clark Atlanta University’s Mighty Marching Panther Band. The event is hosted by WIBB’s Tex James and Rasheeda of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.

M.A. Evans Academy and the following high school bands will compete: Lamar County, Twiggs County, Northeast, Central and Southwest.

Macon’s Kali Dance Studio for Arts will open the program and perform at half-time, which will include a dance battle in the stands.

Tickets are $20 at the gate, which opens at 2 p.m., with free admission for children 6 and under. Onsite tickets can be purchased beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Advance tickets for $15 can be purchased through Friday at the schools and Habersham Records & Tapes at 1477 Pio Nono Ave. and the Cherry Blossom Festival Office at 794 Cherry St.

Half of the proceeds from tickets sold by schools will benefit their band programs.

No outside food or drink, backpacks, large bags, coolers, chairs or umbrellas will be allowed. Carpooling is encouraged due to limited parking at the stadium on Anthony Road between Key Street and Mercer University Drive.
