NBA Star James Harden Arrested and Charged
NBA star James Harden is facing a legal issue off the court.
The 36-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers guard was arrested on the morning of Saturday, June 13 in Texas and charged with unlawful carrying of weapons, according to TMZ. Authorities allege that Harden was found with a handgun inside his vehicle that was not properly secured.
Per the report, the firearm was allegedly in plain sight and was not being carried in a holster. The charge is classified as a misdemeanor.
Harden was later released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 22.
As part of the conditions of his release, the outlet reports that Harden is prohibited from possessing any firearms, ammunition or other weapons. He is also barred from using or possessing alcohol, controlled substances, dangerous drugs or marijuana unless prescribed by a physician. According to the reported bond terms, he may also be subject to random urinalysis.
Fans were a bit shocked by the news, taking to social media to share their opinions.
"Man, of all the things to get arrested for in Texas… a gun in plain sight? Not even concealed or anything crazy. Hope it's just a careless mistake and not a bigger issue," one person wrote on X.
"james harden getting arrested for guns is the last thing i expected on a random saturday. Why do these successful guys always turn out to be their own worse enemy," said another.
The incident took place in Houston, a city where Harden spent a nine-season tenure with the Houston Rockets. Most recently, Harden completed his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were eliminated by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals last month.
At the time of publication, neither Harden nor representatives for the Cavaliers have publicly responded.
