A new movie to be filmed in Macon starting this weekend until July. What we know
Macon can add another film production to its growing résumé as S&K Pictures prepares to shoot a new movie downtown beginning June 15.
The filming will run through July 17, prompting several temporary closures along Fifth Street, city officials announced Friday.
The closures will remain in effect throughout the filming period and include:
- Westside parking lane between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Poplar Street
- Eastside parking lane between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and north driveway entrance of Terminal Station
- East sidewalk closure directly in front of Terminal Station entrance (will not impede bus shelter area.)
Additional closures may be announced as filming plans are finalized. City officials are urging motorists traveling near Fifth Street and Historic Terminal Station to drive carefully and remain alert to film crews working in the area.
The title of the film was not disclosed in the news release, but the production follows various movies and dramas that were filmed in Macon-Bibb, including “Superman,” “Tulsa King,” “Lovecraft Country” and “The Color Purple.”
“It’s a great day in Macon-Bibb when our beautiful community will be featured on the big screen,” Mayor Lester Miller said in the news release. “I’m especially excited for the length of time crews will be here, getting to enjoy the hospitality and welcoming nature of our downtown.”
Visit Macon Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Aaron Buzza said the city is always excited to welcome film and television productions.
“The productions provide a great showcase for our community both during the time filming is happening and into the future,” Buzza said in the release. “Cast and crew have the chance to experience the hospitality Macon offers during their stays in hotels, meals at restaurants, and visits to attractions and retail throughout the community. Viewers also have an opportunity to see Macon on screen and often want to experience those locations in person and see more of our community.”
