Grammy-winning artist Phoebe Bridgers to perform pop-up Macon concert
Hundreds waited in a line that snaked through downtown Macon on Saturday morning, hoping to attend a concert that had only been announced earlier that day.
Grammy-winning indie singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers announced a pop-up concert at The Robins Financial Capitol Theatre in downtown Macon on Saturday. The line of hopefuls waiting to secure a wristband traveled from the venue down Cherry Street and wrapped down to Mulberry Street.
Venue workers distributed wristbands for attendees at noon. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The show is “first come, first served,” according to a flyer distributed across downtown Macon advertising the show.
Attendees will not be able to record the concert. The flyer stated, “No cellphones, smart watches, smart glasses, cameras or recording devices allowed.” It is unclear how many wristbands were distributed, but the Capitol Theatre’s capacity is “about 650 for concerts,” according to a Mercer University news release after it acquired the venue in February 2026.
The Macon show is not the first of Bridgers’ pop-up performances — she has also performed in intimate venues in Mobile, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi, and other cities this month, according to local news outlets.
Some fans in line said they had heard speculation Bridgers might play in Macon and chose to wait it out. The only confirmation were small posters hung around downtown Macon Saturday morning.
“We were all standing in line and we looked at each other and were like, ‘It’s going to happen, or it’s not going to happen. If not, let’s go get lunch,” said Katherine Yanes, who came from Birmingham, Alabama. “It’s a gamble.”
Savannah Tallant and Kaitlyn Isley, from Kathleen, heard the show was happening from Macon Bagels’ Instagram post Saturday morning that showed a picture of the poster.
“Last night we were having dinner, and she said, ‘I heard that there are rumors they’re coming to Macon,’” said Isley. She said the two got up and arrived at 9 a.m. “She said she’s never seen me drive so fast,” said Tallant.
