Officials on Friday announced the first booking for the new Macon Amphitheater, a country music concert set for early April starring singer Riley Green.

However, the show will not be the much-anticipated venue’s premiere show, an event that is expected to feature a bigger-named act.

Green’s concert, part of his “Ain’t My Last Rodeo” tour, is April 4. Tickets go on sale Sept. 15 and prices start at $52.

Mayor Lester Miller said in a statement that “the amphitheater may still be under construction, but we’re already booking acts. ... I’m looking forward to the day when we can announce who will be the very first act to perform there.”

The statement further noted the venue’s 12,000-person capacity “with covered and fixed seats, lawn seats, green space, artists’ dressing rooms, a green room, ticket booths, vendor and event areas ... specific areas for crews, retail areas, and other amenities.”

As for the Alabama-raised singer Green who will perform one of the site’s first shows, he was lauded by Rolling Stone magazine in summer 2018 as one of 10 new country acts of note.

The magazine said his sound is for fans of “early Tim McGraw, Sawyer Brown (and) acid-wash Wranglers.”
