Theatre Macon bringing musical version of ‘The Color Purple’ to Middle Georgia
Theatre Macon is bringing a musical stage production of The Color Purple to life in Middle Georgia.
The stage production will run May 13-22 at Theatre Macon’s home at 438 Cherry St.
“It has been amazing to be a part of telling a story as impactful as The Color Purple,” said Deondria West, actress in the musical adaption. “I’m excited to see how this story positively affects our community and brings people together.”
Tickets are priced as the following:
- Mainstage: adults- $25, seniors- $20, military- $15 and student (with an ID up until the age of 23)- $10.
- Stage 2: General Admission- $15
The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a celebration of life. The musical, according to a press release, follows a woman named Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story.
The cast features local talent with Deondria West as Celie, Jalynn Pasley as Shug, Kelley Dixson as Sophia, Erykah Brannon as Nettie, Christen Wynn as Squeak, Trajan Clayton as Harpo, and Charles Davis as Mister.
The music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray features jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music, and blues.
“It’s interesting seeing the bridge and how it’s bringing people from all over to Theatre Macon to unite through this show and this story,” West said.
The production is led by Theatre Macon artistic director Richard Frazier, music director Jim Penndorf and choreographer Pilar Lowden.
