Powersville Opry House opens in new Middle Georgia location after 28 years in Byron
The Powersville Opry House is leaving its longtime location in Byron to relocate to a bigger building in Hawkinsville.
A spot for regular weekend gospel and country performances since 1994, Opry House organizers intend to keep shows free to the public, making ends meet with donations and concession sales.
“I think [Opry fans] will come to Hawkinsville; it’s free and it’s a safe environment. We don’t allow any alcohol or foul language. It’s a family setting, and people enjoy that,” said Grover Jewell, president of Powersville Opry House.
The new location at 390 Perry Highway in Hawkinsville was provided by the organization People Helping People United. Jewell said the move will allow the Opry to generate excitement and grow its audience after enduring the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The excitement is brewing down in Hawkinsville,” he said. “The word is getting out.”
The Opry recently celebrated its 28 year anniversary at the Byron location and held its final show in late March. Its new location officially opened April 2. To stay up-to-date on events and shows, follow them on Facebook.
