Pick your own berries at one of these 5 Middle Georgia farms this summer
Spring is a lovely time of year. Everything is blooming, which means it’s harvest time for some delicious fruits and berries.
If you don’t have a farm of your own, you can go to any of these five places to get your fill of strawberries, blueberries and, of course, Georgia peaches.
Lane Southern Orchard
Lane Southern Orchard has been growing peaches and pecans for more than 100 years, and they have a strawberry patch that is ripe for picking through May, according to their website.
The farm is located at 50 Lane Road in Fort Valley, Georgia and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.
It costs $3 per pound of strawberries to pick them yourself or $3.50 per pound if Lane’s picks them for you.
Elliot Farms
Elliot Farms is a family owned and operated farm that grows many different vegetables as well as strawberries that you can pick yourself.
The farm has two locations: 4761 Holley Road in Lizella, and 9515 Feagin Road, Macon. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except on Sundays when they open at 10 a.m., according to their Facebook page.
It costs $3 per pound of strawberries if you pick them yourself, and $3.50 per pound if farmhands pick them.
Dickey Farms
Dickey Farms is open for business Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., according to their website.
The farm is located at 3440 Musella Road in Musella. It costs $3 per pound of strawberries if you pick them yourself, and $3.25 per pound if they pick them.
Twin Oaks Fun Farms
Twin Oaks Fun Farms provides fun for the whole family Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the spring, according to their website.
Visitors can pick strawberries there for $3 per pound, or people can buy already picked strawberries for $3.75 per pound.
Prices can change due to the weather, so check out their Facebook page for special prices. The farm is located at 1946 Johnstonville Road in Forsyth.
Sunshine’s Berry Farm
If you want to pick something other than strawberries, Sunshine’s Berry Farm offers blueberry picking, but you have to wait a little later in the season. The seasonal opening is the second Saturday in June, and people can pick blueberries on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
It is located at 299 Big Six Farms Road in Fort Valley. A quart of blueberries is $7 and a gallon is $26 if you pick them yourself. If they pick the blueberries for you, it costs $8 for a quart and $30 for a gallon, according to their website.
