Drive or walk through Central City Park some weekday nights or Saturday mornings and you might hear the sound of roller skates from the warehouse located next to the new senior center.

Kimchi Kollider, Trauma Splice and Sweet Amnesia are just a few of the roller derby personas skating for the Middle Georgia Derby Demons roller derby team that calls the warehouse home for practices. This week the team is hosting a boot camp for those interested in joining.

The camp is open for men and women of all skill levels said Allie Patrick, newbie coordinator and trainer for the Derby Demons. Men can participate as referees and as non-competing team assistants.

“We are always looking for new people to skate with us,” she said.

Those interested in joining can show up at practice 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturdays, or email training@middlegeorgiaderby.com. The next boot camp is scheduled for Aug. 20 and 22.

The team was formed in 2011 and competes under the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association governing body. The Derby Demons will host two home bouts at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry and a Halloween Mash Up bout at the Gray-8-Skate in October in Gray.
