Eight area teams headed to Columbus for GHSA softball championships
The GHSA softball playoffs are down to eight teams in each classification, and there will be a large contingent of area teams headed to the championships next week.
The double-elimination championships will be played Thursday through Oct. 28 in Columbus, and there will be eight area teams in the mix for a title.
Four of those are from Bibb County in the Class 1A private school championship, and all four of those teams play at 11 a.m. on Thursday. FPD, the defending champion, faces Tattnall Square in the first round, while Stratford faces Wesleyan, and Mount de Sales faces Eagle’s Landing Christian.
A fifth Bibb County team — Rutland — will take part in the Class 3A championship, opening against Calhoun at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
In Class 6A, Houston County faces Creekview at 1 p.m. on Thursday. In Class 5A, Jones County faces Walnut Grove at 3 p.m. on Thursday. In Class 4A, Perry faces Marist at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
