Two-top 10 matchups this week feature area football teams
There are two top-10 matchups Friday night featuring area teams, and one of those games pits two area teams against each other.
In Forsyth, Mary Persons, which is ranked eighth in GHSA Class 4A, will host Peach County, which is fourth in Class 3A. Mary Persons has won three straight games and is 3-1, while Peach County is 2-1. Peach County leads the all-time series 7-6 and won 20-19 last year.
Jones County, which is fifth in Class 5A, will travel to face No. 10 Woodland in Region 4-5A action. The Greyhounds are 3-0, while Woodland is 2-0, and it beat Jones County 38-9 last year. Woodland is 2-0 in region play, while Jones County won its region opener last week.
There are three other area teams ranked this week: Northside is fifth in Class 6A, Warner Robins is sixth in Class 5A and Tattnall Square is ninth in Class 1A. Also, Westside received one vote in Class 3A.
Northside’s game Friday at Ware County was pushed back a week to Sept. 22, while Warner Robins travels to Houston County, Tattnall Square hosts Pacelli, and Westside hosts B.E.S.T. Academy.
