Valdosta-Houston County, Tattnall Square-Washington-Wilkes among top high school games coming up
Valdosta at Houston County
The region champ visits the team that must win to make the playoffs. It won’t have the same juice as Friday night’s game. Of course, it’s just as important, and is senior night, perhaps the final high school game for Jake Fromm and a standard-setting senior class.
Warner Robins at Bainbridge
A month ago, the Demons were reeling and getting grief from the fan base. Now, they can finish second and play host in the first round of the playoffs.
Spalding at Upson-Lee
A big November game at Mathews Field? It has been a while. Spalding has righted the ship and has the tiebreaker edge on Upson-Lee and West Laurens, but the Knights can take care of that with a win to get the No. 2 spot outright and host a playoff game for the first time since 1993.
Peach County at Jackson
Nothing fancy here. The winner is Region 4-3A champ. And remember. Jackson won 3-2 last year, so Peach County will be taking some batting practice this week.
Rutland at Pike County
Rutland forces a three-way tie for fourth in GHSA Region 4-3A with a win. The region’s tie-breaker rules put the Hurricanes in an intriguing situation: They must win, but they are also eliminated if they score more than 17 points or give up more than five points. Central and Pike County also have routes to the playoffs through the tie-breaker.
Dublin at Washington County
A month ago, most figured this would be for the Region 3-AA title, but it’s No. 1 vs. No. 4. Still, there will be a pretty good playoff atmosphere among two teams with strong traditions.
Tattnall Square at Washington-Wilkes
The teams meet for the second time this season in the Region 7-1A championship game. Tattnall (9-0) beat Washington-Wilkes 38-0 on Sept. 23, but Washington-Wilkes (4-5) has won four straight after an 0-5 start.
Windsor at Terrell
The Knights advanced to the GISA Class 2A quarterfinals with a 49-12 win over First Presbyterian Christian.
