Washington County win lifts Golden Hawks into rankings
A shutout over a surging Southwest team was enough to push Washington County into the No. 10 spot in GHSA Class 2A in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association poll released Tuesday.
The Golden Hawks are three points behind No. 9 Screven County, which was also unranked last week. Dublin is 12th. Washington County visits Northeast on Friday.
Mary Persons moved up one to No. 7 in Class 4A after winning the defensive tussle with West Laurens. The Bulldogs try to stay perfect in Region 2-4A on Friday when they host Perry.
Northside (No. 3 in Class 6A) and Peach County (No. 2 in Class 3A) stayed put, while Macon County dropped one to No. 10 in Class 1A despite its 55-8 win over Hawkinsville. Tattnall Square moved up to 13th. Houston County, idle last week, received enough votes for 12th in Class 6A, and Jones County got enough votes for 12th in Class 5A.
Houston County hosts Northsde on Friday while Jones County is at top-ranked Stockbridge.
