This week’s Middle Georgia high school football capsules
All games at 7:30 p.m. on Friday unless noted.
Top five
Westside at Peach County
Game time: 8 p.m.
Series record: Peach County leads 4-2.
Last meeting: Peach County won 22-17.
Scouting report: The 2-2 Seminoles could easily be 3-1 and got some momentum going last week. The Trojans’ passing game is fine, but the receiving game still needs work. Westside has confidence after its performance against Northside.
Perry at Veterans
Series record: Series tied at 3.
Last meeting: Veterans won 35-7 in 2015.
Scouting report: The Warhawks can get to 3-3 for the second straight season, while the Panthers are trying to avoid 1-3 for the third straight season.
Lincoln County at Stratford
Series history: Lincoln County leads 1-0.
Last meeting: Lincoln County won 21-20 in 2014.
Scouting report: It’s the final game for Stratford prior to the start of Region 7A-A play, and it comes against one of the top teams from the other side of the region. Injuries have put a damper on Stratford’s ground game, but the Eagles’ defense has been strong.
Eagle’s Landing at Jones County
Series record: Jones County leads 2-0.
Last meeting: Jones County won 41-20 in 1999.
Scouting report: The Golden Eagles are well-tested, and have outscored past two opponents 72-28 behind the passing of Cameron Lewis, while Jones County has to rebound from a home thumping to avoid digging a region hole.
Taylor County at Macon County
Series record: Series tied at 9.
Last meeting: Taylor County won 7-0 in 2013.
Scouting report: For all the talk of offense, keep an eye on defense, because at some point, that’s what will win. This is rare big-game air for the Vikings, and part of a monster stretch (Irwin County, Fitzgerald and Northside) for Macon County.
Other games to watch
Houston County at Spalding
Series record: First meeting
Scouting report: The Jaguars, winners of seven of past eight home games, have won three straight since losing 53-50 to Griffin, with two shutouts.
West Laurens at Warner Robins
Series record: First meeting.
Scouting report: West Laurens feels like an undefeated team and is in a groove facing a team that’s not. Will homecoming be a spark for the Demons?
Central at Kendrick
Game time/location: 3 p.m., Saturday/Kinnett Stadium.
Series history: Central leads 4-1.
Last meeting: Central won 52-22 in 2014.
Scouting report: Central, which will have its best start in 35 years with a victory Saturday, won both meetings with the Cherokees in the previous classification cycle.
Rutland at Jackson
Series history: Jackson leads 7-0.
Last meeting: Jackson won 34-0 in 2015.
Scouting report: Jackson has won every meeting in this series by at least 17 points.
Bleckley County at Northeast
Location: Thompson Stadium.
Series history: Bleckley County leads 3-1.
Last meeting: Northeast won 32-12 in 2015.
Scouting report: Northeast, whose win over Bleckley County last year helped the Raiders reach the postseason with a 2-8 record, has been competitive in all four of its losses as part of an 0-4 start.
Washington-Wilkes at Tattnall Square
Series history: First meeting.
Scouting report: Tattnall (3-0) has outscored opponents 115-7, while Washington-Wilkes (0-3) has been outscored 69-13.
Dodge County at Southwest
Location: Henderson Stadium.
Series history: Dodge County leads 3-1.
Last meeting: Dodge County won 38-0 in 2013.
Scouting report: Since opening the season with a win over Westside, Southwest is 0-3 and has been outscored 97-26.
Crawford County at Hawkinsville
Series record: Hawkinsville leads 3-1.
