Georgia lands commitment from four-star RB D'Andre Swift

Georgia Sports Communications

Georgia received a commitment from a recruit who lives up to his name.

St. Joseph's (Philadelphia) running back D'Andre Swift announced that he will attend college at Georgia. Swift is the second running back to commit in Georgia's class of 2017, joining Langham Creek's (Houston) Toneil Carter.

Swift gives Georgia 15 commitments in its upcoming class. He chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Penn State.

Swift is a powerful back who possesses plenty of speed. 247Sports.com analyst Jake Rowe said Swift has all of the tangibles teams look for in a running back.

"This kid is a powder keg at running back both as a ball carrier and a receiver out of the backfield," Rowe said. "He's not the biggest guy in the world at a shade under 5-foot-10, but he comes in at 214 pounds with a powerful lower half. He possesses elite elusiveness and balance to go with excellent vision and speed."

Swift made his announcement in a Bleacher Report video, which has become a common theme with recruits.

Swift and Carter mark the latest pair of backs to commit to Georgia in the same class. Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall did so in 2012, Brendan Douglas and J.J. Green (who is now at Georgia Tech) committed in 2013, and Nick Chubb and Sony Michel joined Georgia in 2014.

The class of 2016 saw Brian Herrien as a late addition to go with four-star back Elijah Holyfield.

Rowe said the Swift/Carter tandem is a little different than those in recent years, however.

"Swift is similar to a Sony Michel while Carter has some of the same qualities as Keith Marshall," Rowe said. "Swift can make a major impact in the passing game but is also a versatile runner. Carter has excellent speed and has the ability make the one cut and take it to the house. I'd say that Swift is more explosive than Michel and Carter is more shifty and has better balance than Marshall, but those are the two guys I'd compare them to."
