Georgia injury updates on Quincy Mauger, Charlie Woerner

A day after participating in Monday’s practice, safety Quincy Mauger was relegated to the stationary bike with a boot over his left foot Tuesday.

Head coach Kirby Smart said Mauger is dealing with an ankle sprain, which held him out of practice. During the weekend, Mauger was photographed with the boot on his left foot, alongside head coach Kirby Smart and tight end Jeb Blazevich, which was when the injury first arose.

A source told The Telegraph that Mauger’s ankle injury isn’t serious and that it shouldn’t hold him out for too long.

Mauger started 12 games in 2015 and recorded 58 total tackles.

"Quincy’s a guy who’s been beat up all camp," Smart said. "We’re trying to get him back the best we can. He was limited the day before today, and today he was out. We’re trying to get him back healthy."

Joining Mauger on the stationary bike was freshman tight end Charlie Woerner, who did the same routine on Monday. Woerner is also dealing with an ankle sprain and is considered "day-to-day."

"I thought he might be back out there (Tuesday) but he wasn’t. But he’s rehabbing and we’ll find out when he’s back," Smart said.

Cornerback Juwuan Briscoe and linebacker Juwan Taylor were both still in black non-contact jerseys. Defensive tackle John Atkins (hyperextended knee) was not present for practice. Defensive lineman Michael Barnett, who was pulled out of Monday's practice with what looked to be an arm injury, was back with his position group and going through drills.

Another practice item to note was that defensive back Maurice Smith, who transferred from Alabama to Georgia as a graduate student, is still not in full pads. He’s still completing an acclimation period before he’s allowed to be full-go with the team.

A lightning strike temporarily delayed practice for about 10 minutes, which forced the players to sit on the bus until the inclement weather cleared.
