Sony Michel wearing non-contact jersey for scrimmage
While Nick Chubb was tackled to the ground in Saturday's scrimmage, Sony Michel was still not able take any contact.
Prior to Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage, Michel was spotted in a black non-contact jersey, indicating he wouldn't be going live with his teammates. Michel sustained an open fracture to his left forearm and has been rehabbing it since.
He did take handoffs and tosses during individual drills, which shows he's making progress with the injury.
Now, Michel wasn't wearing a cast on the injured arm during warm-ups and individual drills. According to a source, however, Michel put on an arm brace once the media viewing period ended. He spent the majority of practice, once reporters left, doing conditioning drills like he has been.
"I think (not having a cast early in practice) was just knowing he wasn’t going to be a part of the scrimmage," head coach Kirby Smart said. "It may have been lessened for that effect, but it wasn’t a next step or anything like that."
Michel is Georgia's leading returning rusher with 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2015. He filled in as the lead running back once Chubb sustained a significant knee injury that prematurely ended his season against Tennessee.
