Kirby Smart's still recruiting California commit Demetris Robertson
It's not over until it's over.
Although Savannah Christian Prep receiver Demetris Robertson, a five-star recruit according to the 247Sports.com, announced his commitment to California, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart isn't giving up on the prized prospect just yet.
Robertson has not signed a National Letter of Intent and the April 1 deadline has passed. So even though Robertson announced his intention to play for California, there's still a theoretical chance Georgia could still land Robertson when it's all said and done.
"Absolutely," Smart said, flashing a sly smile when asked if he's still recruiting Robertson. "Why not?"
Robertson committed to California at the Chick-Fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in a ceremony in a decision that was seen as a surprise.
Robertson said one of the reasons he chose California was due to the academic aspect of the school.
“I always told myself I’d rather have a million-dollar business than a million-dollar contract in the NFL,” Robertson said.
Smart is still pursuing Robertson since he'd add needed speed on Georgia's perimeter. He also mentioned, in tongue-in-cheek fashion, that he wants to make sure California's coaches don't take a player 2,500 miles to the other side of the country too easily.
“Keep Cal working and maybe they’ll recruit less guys over here," Smart said.
