Brendan Douglas back in a black non-contact jersey for Saturday's practice
Brendan Douglas is back in black.
Douglas, who was able to shed the non-contact jersey for Thursday’s practice, was held out of contact drills on Saturday. This could presumably be due to the scrimmage that’s taking place during the day. While Douglas was able to participate in contact drills during practice this week, head coach Kirby Smart said he wanted to play it safe.
"We were just being precautious on a tackling day," Smart said. "We were going to tackle live today and felt he needed to be in a black jersey. He did get to carry today some. He’s doing a nice job. That’s a tough kid, now. To go out there, and he’s been thud and tag-off with a black jersey, but we can’t run the ball without him."
Douglas is recovering from wrist surgery stemming from an injury that occurred in December. He was unable to play in Georgia’s 24-17 TaxSlayer Bowl win over Penn State.
With Douglas limited this spring, and with Nick Chubb recovering from a knee injury, depth has been limited during practices.
While Douglas put the black jersey back on, cornerback Juwuan Briscoe was back in a full-contact white jersey. He was limited in contract drills on Thursday, although he was practicing at full speed.
Linebacker Tim Kimbrough, who wasn’t spotted during Thursday’s practice, was on the spotted at Sanford Stadium and was full-go during individual drills. Smart said Kimbrough missed Thursday’s practice due to an academic issue.
"He’s got some academic issues he needed to focus on," Smart said. "So we allowed him to miss practice to focus on the academic situation he’s in. He’s centered on that work. Of course we had him back out there today, but he was focused on his academics there for a 48-hour window."
Smart also said running back/fullback Nick Moore sustained an MCL injury, which caused him to leave Saturday’s practice. Receiver Shaquery Wilson moved to running back and got some work there as a result.
"We got a chance to use Shaquery a bit," Smart said. "I know you guys asked about that. He got to play a little bit in special situations. I’m glad we did because we would have run out of backs today. He got to play a little bit back there."
Smart said offensive lineman Mirko Jurkovic sustained a dislocated knee cap and that defensive lineman Joseph Ledbetter is "not with the team right now."
