Nick Chubb has sprained ankle, severity unknown
Georgia running back Nick Chubb is considered day-to-day with a sprained left ankle, head coach Kirby Smart said following Saturday's 45-14 loss to Mississippi.
Chubb sustained the injury near the end of the first half. He was taken to the sideline and looked at by the training staff. After it was determined that he wouldn't finish the game, Chubb stayed in the locker room to begin treatment.
Smart said the severity of the injury is unknown, which could cast some doubt as to whether he plays next Saturday against Tennessee.
"He couldn't come back to the game," Smart said. "I know he wanted to but he couldn't come back. We'll see how that goes. He'll miss a couple of days."
Despite being limited on his runs between the tackles at times, Chubb did end the first half, and ultimately his game, with 12 carries for 57 yards.
As a team, Georgia ended up rushing for 230 yards, although most of those came in the second half after Mississippi was leading 45-0. Leading the way for Georgia was freshman Brian Herrien, who totaled 11 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Smart said Georgia has to improve the running game if it's going to be a balanced offensive team.
"We're trying to find any way we can (to run the ball)," Smart said. "Outside, we had a few crack tosses where they went well. But that's also gotten us in trouble. You can lose yards out there on the perimeter. We need to be able to run the ball inside because we have good backs to do it. But we have struggled to do that."
