High-prized freshman Jacob Eason still learning the ropes with third team
For as much attention as freshman quarterback Jacob Eason garnered through the recruiting process, it is clear Georgia is taking it slow with the five-star prospect out of Lake Stevens, Washington.
Head coach Kirby Smart said Eason is still working with the third-team in practice during team and offensive line drills. Greyson Lambert started the spring as the first-team quarterback but has since begun rotating with Brice Ramsey with the one and two units.
Eason has been with the third team for five practices now.
But Eason, the Gatorade National Player of the Year, has at least been able to get a feel for passing to Georgia’s first-string receivers during individual drills, which could at least help him timing-wise if he’s to start pushing for the starting job at some point.
"Because of the way we practice and our structure, we can’t get reps perfectly saying this guy’s with the ones or twos," Smart said. "Jacob’s throwing with the one receivers, they all roll in there. When it comes to o-line and team periods, it’s been those (Lambert and Ramsey) rolling in there with the ones and twos."
