Houston County QB Jake Fromm, an Alabama pledge, appreciative of Georgia offer
Even with Jacob Eason in the fold, Georgia is in need of quarterbacks. The Bulldogs only have two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster at the moment and could stand to stockpile a few more.
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see new head coach Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney offer Houston County quarterback Jake Fromm last week. Fromm is a class of 2017 quarterback who is regarded among the best in the nation.
Fromm, a four-star prospect who won the state of Georgia’s Gatorade Player of the Year award, committed to Alabama this past October. But with his home-state school offering, could that change his mind?
"I'm still 100 percent committed to Alabama," Fromm said. "I couldn't be any more happy than where I'm at."
In 13 games this season, Fromm threw for 4,099 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions.
When Fromm received his Georgia offer, he became the first quarterback to receive one by the new coaching staff. Fromm said that because he and Smart built a relationship while Alabama recruited him, he’s not surprised to see one come his way from Georgia.
While it took a while for Georgia – regardless of whether it was Smart or Mark Richt at the helm – Fromm did say he’s appreciative of the offer.
"They probably have a million other things to worry about other than me," Fromm said. "I’m just thankful it did happen."
Georgia offered Fromm not too long after McEachern quarterback Bailey Hockman decommitted from its 2017 class. It’s unlikely, at least at this time, for Hockman to re-join the class.
That’s why the Bulldogs feel the need to secure another top-caliber quarterback prospect. But for Fromm, it may be too little too late.
"As big a deal as it is, I’m committed," Fromm said. "For me, the recruiting process really just closed down a lot and I'm happy where I'm at, and I can't wait to get to Alabama."
