Mercer’s Kyle Lewis receives summer baseball All-America honor
Mercer’s Kyle Lewis closed the book on his summer baseball season with a major honor, earning Perfect Game Summer Collegiate second team All-America accolades on Wednesday morning.
Lewis led the Orleans Firebirds to the best record in the Cape Cod League (31-12-1) and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The 6-foot-4 outfielder was named to the league’s all-star game after hitting .300 and ranking among the league leaders with seven home runs and 24 RBI.
The Snellville product and Southern Conference Player of the Year fell just shy of the conference’s triple crown in the spring, topping the Southern Conference in batting average (.367) and home runs (17) while finishing fifth in RBI (56).
Lewis earned All-America honors from Louisville Slugger (Collegiate Baseball), National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game, took home the prestigious Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year award and became Mercer’s first participant in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby.
