Fort Valley State loses at Benedict
Fort Valley State was unable to build on last week’s triple-overtime victory over Clark Atlanta on Saturday, losing 28-14 at Benedict.
The host Tigers scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes of the first half to go up 21-7, then they added a 47-yard interception for a touchdown late in the third quarter, according to scoring information provided by Benedict.
Orenzo Smith caught a 71-yard touchdown pass from Domontay Jones in the fourth quarter for Fort Valley State. Chauncey Jackson had the Wildcats’ other score, a 1-yard run in the first quarter.
Jones completed 10-of-20 passes for 257 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions. The Wildcats were held to 10 rushing yards.
The Wildcats fall to 1-3, 1-2 in the SIAC. Benedict improves to 3-1, 1-0.
Fort Valley State is at Alderson Broaddus at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
