Pelly’s gone

The old adage that nothing good happens after midnight was shown to be flawed in the wee hours of the morning when I read that CBS was replacing Scott Pelly as anchorperson for the evening news. After some 50 years of watching that broadcast regularly I turned it off about three months ago because Pelly and his sidekick, John Dickerson, had set an absolute low standard in presenting the news in a fair and impartial manner. Their treatment of President Donald Trump and his administration often bordered on the vulgar Trump-bashing recently done by CNN’s comedian Kathy Griffin, using a disgusting bloodied Trump mask as a stage prop that resembled a Pakistani beheading.

Hopefully the media policy makers are getting the message that many of us are sick and tired of the constant bashing of our president and his programs. Policy disagreement is good when presented in a civilized manner but continued media news that is always slanted toward the political left — donkey good, elephant bad — really needs to end. Newscasters and editors should just offer the facts of an event and let the consumer reach her own conclusions. Leave the opining to the letter writers, columnist and editorial cartoonist.

Great food drive

On behalf of the board, the staff and clients of Loaves and Fishes Ministry of Macon, we would like to express our gratitude to all of the mail carriers, volunteers and residents of our community who participated in the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive held on May 13. Thanks to your generosity, approximately 14,000 pounds of food was collected for distribution to the less fortunate in our community.

As you are aware, the problem of food insecurity in our community is greater than ever. It is through efforts like “Stamp Out Hunger,” food drives and donations from local churches, businesses and individuals, that organizations like Loaves and Fishes are able to help with the nutritional needs of many in our community. Once again, thank for your participation in “Stamp Out Hunger” 2017.

Mary Alice Webb,

Board Member, Loaves and Fishes Ministry

Past history

We have come to a time in history where we wish to hide our mistakes. That is if you call it a mistake. We try to hide our history by removing reminders of that time in our past. We fail to believe what really happened and want to punish those people who stood for their rights and beliefs. They fail to realize that the world has changed and is changing every day.

New Orleans is busy removing the statues of some great Americans just because they fought on the losing side. What some Americans don’t realize or even know there were more black men in the Confederate Army than in the Northern Army. It is in the history books published a hundred years more or less ago. They said the same thing the African Americans said in the Second World War.

We may be black and ex-slaves even second class citizen’s but this is our home and we will protect it with our lives. They are now citizens the same as I am. I will stand by everyone who has been treated falsely. I would be glad to have them fight a battle along with me. The majority are fine and great citizens and friends. They have added greatly to this country.

Looking for positives

The letter from Charlie Adams in the May 29 edition provides an excellent review of recent media coverage which I would like to second. I read the article he referenced and recognized it for what it was — just another slur piece on Trump. Sadly, I was unaware of the actual nature of Trump’s speech and gained nothing of benefit from the article. It was typical of the major media coverage, especially from the Associated Press and McClatchy in following the style points now reserved for Trump that is simply to portray him as badly as possible.

I challenge The Telegraph editors to review your coverage of Trump over the past six months or a year with your unbiased journalists eye, if you still have one, and see what you have been feeding the Middle Georgia area. While balanced articles may exist, they are scarce as hen’s teeth, and positive articles are non existent.

PA chairman not truthful

A critical detail of President Trump’s recent meeting with the Palestinian Authority leader, Mahmoud Abbas, has been omitted from American press reports. President Trump accused the PA chairman of lying and of incitement to terror. Trump reportedly told the PA leader. “You lied to me in Washington” when you talked about your commitment to peace. Abbas had claimed that Palestinian youth were raised in a “culture of peace and teach their children peace.” But the Israelis showed Trump that Abbas was personally responsible for incitement.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed out that schools are named after mass murderers of Israelis, they pay terrorists, and Palestinian streets, squares and cultural institutions are frequently named after terrorists with blood on their hands. In a recent example of Palestinian incitement, a youth camp was named in honor of the leader of a mass casualty terror attack. The PLO’s Supreme Council for Youth and Sports announced the naming a youth camp “Brothers of Dalal” after terrorist Dalal Mughrabi.

Indeed, Norway is now demanding their money be returned upon learning that a Palestinian women’s center in the Palestinian village of Burqa was also named after Mughrabi. The center was funded in part by Norway.

It’s obvious that Abbas and the PA cannot be “committed to peace” when about 7 percent of the PA budget ends up in the hands of terrorists or their families. It is no wonder that President Trump was angry and this should have been front page news.

Just what you asked for

Those of you who are having buyer’s remorse over helping to elect President Donald Trump should think about the old Toyota commercial from the late 1970s: “You asked for it, you got it.”
