Steven Tyler opens “Janie’s House” for abused girls in Georgia
Nearly 30 years after writing the song “Janie’s Got a Gun” about child abuse, Steven Tyler has opened a home for abused girls.
The Aerosmith musician opened “Janie’s House” just outside of Atlanta, which he announced on his Instagram account. According to CNN, Tyler participated in a "scarf cutting" Wednesday at the facility at Youth Villages' Inner Harbour campus in Douglasville, Georgia.
"While I was in (rehab), I found out most of women in there were battered and beaten and abused verbally and sexually in huge numbers," he told CNN. "It was like seven out of 10, eight out of 10."
Tyler played a huge role in the project, including helping with the interior design, and he previously started the "Janie’s Fund" foundation in 2015.
"I'm hoping that they get some tools, some advice, some ways to work stuff out, some words of wisdom that they can then live by," he said.
The foundation is currently accepting donations for at-risk girls at janiesfund.org/give.
