New Mercer science center named
On Friday, Mercer University announced the name of a new undergraduate science building that will be built on the Macon campus.
The Spearman C. Godsey Science Center was named after the father of Mercer Chancellor R. Kirby Godsey, who made a “multi-million dollar naming gift” to the university, according to a news release. Construction is set to begin in May on the 142,000 square-foot building, which will come with 60 classrooms, labs, lecture halls and offices, primarily for the biology and chemistry departments.
The $44 million project, which the release characterized as the largest single construction project in Mercer history, will be located between the School of Medicine and Willet Science Center and is expected to be finished by December 2017.
