New appointments and achievements from Houston educators
Three Houston County educators were recently recognized for new achievements and appointments.
▪ Catherine Gardner is the new principal of Bonaire Elementary School. She moves from Northside Middle School, where she was the assistant principal of instruction. Earlier in her career, she taught language arts at Perry and Mossy Creek middle schools.
▪ Cynthia Hammond, principal of Westside Elementary School, is the 2017 Georgia Distinguished Principal for District 11. The award comes from the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals. Hammond has worked for the Houston County district since 2000 and served as an assistant principal before taking on her current role.
▪ Terra McMillan has been named the Georgia State Teacher of the Year by the Air Force Association. She is a science teacher and the science department chairwoman and STEM coordinator at Thomson Middle School.
