Man tells of bizarre pickpocketing at Macon store

You don’t often see reports of pickpocketing in Macon. In fact, the Cop Shop, which peruses hundreds of crime reports each month, hasn’t heard tell of one in these parts in at least two years. But an 89-year-old Eatonton man told Bibb County sheriff’s deputies that March 14 he and his wife were shopping at the Aldi grocery store on Log Cabin Drive in west Macon when something strange happened. He said a man approached them and “sprayed some sort of green liquid on them,” a sheriff’s report said. “He then stated that the suspect then took a paper towel and then started to dry him off.” It was during this patting down that the culprit apparently stole the man’s Visa card. He and his wife were not hurt in the encounter, and from the looks of the report the victim didn’t provide the police much to go on as far as a description of the suspect.
