Hawkinsville teen fatally shot in bedroom
A Hawkinsville teen was fatally shot at home Monday night as he and some friends were handling a pistol that discharged, the GBI said.
Michael Mays was in his bedroom at 18 Franklin St. with several friends about 7:30 p.m. when he was fatally wounded, said GBI Special Agent Scott Whitley said.
“There was some reckless handling of a pistol at various times during this incident by more than one of the guys in the bedroom,” Whitley said.
Whitley declined Tuesday morning to say where Mays was wounded or who the gun belonged to, but did say it appeared to be accidental.
Mays’ mother and sister were in the house at the time of the shooting, Whitely said.
No charges have been filed in the case so far.
