Body found off Feagin Road, badly decomposed
A badly decomposed body was discovered Thursday afternoon off Feagin Road, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death as a homicide, officials said.
The sex and race of the deceased person wasn’t immediately clear due to decomposition from the elements as well as animal activity, Macon-Bibb County Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said. A skull was found in the vicinity of the body.
“We estimate the person has been here ... over a week, but we don’t know how much longer than that,” Miley said. “Of course, there will be an autopsy and examination of the skull and dental records to try to find out who this person is. We’ll be trying to do everything we can to find out who this person was.”
The entrance to the 14-acre lot at 9468 Feagin Road was roped off by yellow crime scene tape Thursday afternoon as investigators took pictures and collected evidence.
The body was discovered about 2 p.m. by someone who was checking for illegal dumping for the property owner, Bibb County sheriff’s Deputy Linda Howard said.
“Once on the property, that’s when he smelled the scent of something that was decomposing,” Howard said. “Once he searched the area, that’s when he found the body. ... At this time, we’ll just have to wait for the autopsy to be done so we can find out the cause of death and the identity of the person.”
