Midstate inmate settles Passover lawsuit for $200
A Middle Georgia inmate who filed a $1.6 million federal lawsuit against prison officials in 2014, alleging that he was a victim of religious persecution, has signed an agreement to settle the case for $200.
Mitchell Lavern Ludy, then an inmate at Dooly State Prison in Unadilla, contended that officials denied him access to kosher foods used to celebrate the Jewish holiday Passover, which commemorates the deliverance of the ancient Hebrews from slavery in Egypt.
Ludy, now an inmate at Johnson State Prison in Wrightsville, was convicted of murder in Clayton County Superior Court in 2006.
He’s serving a life sentence.
