Before he was shot to death late last month, a preacher who was also famed soul singer Otis Redding’s grandson told a Macon woman with whom he was having an apparent lovers’ quarrel, “Shoot me! Shoot me!”

The Rev. Brandon J. Parker, 33, died of a gunshot wound to the neck moments later in a wee-hours argument that was overheard by someone who told the police that Parker and the woman had “what sounded like a struggle.”

New details in the widely publicized case emerged Monday — more than a week after the April 23 slaying — in a Bibb County sheriff’s report obtained by The Telegraph.

The report, which characterizes the episode as a “lovers’ quarrel,” notes that the police were called to a house at 739 Grosso Ave. in the city’s Unionville community about 1:20 a.m.

She saw Mr. Parker lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

A woman there named Tracia Yvonne Hubbard, 48, who was later charged with murder, “appeared to be applying pressure to the neck of the victim while crying hysterically,” the report said.

Hubbard’s mother, Collistine Hubbard, 66, later told investigators that Parker had gone to the apartment where the mother and daughter live “in order to speak with” Tracia Hubbard, the report added.

Collistine Hubbard “stated when a dispute broke out between her daughter ... and Mr. Parker, she told Mr. Parker to leave their property several times,” the report noted. “(Collistine) Hubbard advised as the two argued that she heard what sounded like a struggle between the two of them. (Collistine) Hubbard went on to say she heard Mr. Parker say, ‘Shoot me! Shoot me!”

The mother, who was inside at the time and who told investigators she didn’t see the altercation, said she soon heard more struggling followed by the apparent fatal gunshot. A .380-caliber revolver was found at the scene.

“(Collistine) Hubbard advised upon exiting her apartment she saw Mr. Parker lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the left side of his neck,” the report added.
