Defense: Alleged Macon rape victim shared Sprite with attacker
On a summer day nearly two years ago, an east Macon man answered a knock at his door and found a naked woman outside near some bushes.
He called the police on Aug. 31, 2014, for the woman. She alleged she was awakened in bed by a man who was choking her, and he raped her repeatedly, Bibb County prosecutor Larissa Ollivierre said during a Thursday court hearing for Michael Anthony Glover, the woman’s alleged attacker.
Glover was charged with rape Jan. 22, 2016, according to county jail records.
In arguing for a bond to be set for Glover, his attorney, Joseph Clark, said the 56-year-old Glover is entitled to a bond by law because he’s been held 90 days without an indictment.
He said police didn’t find any evidence of forced entry at the woman’s house off Ruark Road.
“There was a point during the attack when she became thirsty and was allowed by her attacker to go to the refrigerator and get a can of Sprite, which she then shared with her alleged attacker,” Clark said. “After they had a bit of Sprite to drink the struggle then resumed.”
Clark said the woman told police she didn’t see her attacker’s face.
Ollivierre said the woman told authorities she recognized Glover’s voice since they live near each other. Clark contends the woman said the man’s voice wasn’t Glover’s.
Glover’s DNA matched evidence collected in a sexual assault kit performed on the woman, Ollivierre said.
The judge set Glover’s bond at $100,000 and barred him from contacting the woman.
