Macon man, 76, charged with murder deemed incompetent to stand trial

Frank Reeves, a 76-year-old man charged with murder in the 2012 fatal shooting of a woman outside a Gray Highway gas station, will soon be taken to Central State Hospital in Milledgeville where he'll be treated for 90 days in hopes that he'll regain competency to stand trial, a judge ordered Wednesday.

Bibb County Superior Court Judge Tripp Self told Reeves family, who gathered behind him in the courtroom, that the hospital will send the court a report after the 90 days. If Reeves has regained competency, he may stand trial in the Dec. 4, 2012, death of Linda Hunnicutt, 65.

If Reeves isn't competent in that time frame, he'll continue to receive treatment and the court will receive annual reports on his status, the judge said.

"This is not a verdict," Self said.

Reeves' lawyer had previously filed a motion that prompted the hearing.
