Suspect in Macon club killing turns himself over to authorities

A 26-year-old man who turned himself over to authorities Tuesday morning was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting outside of Macon's Club Status in September, according to a Wednesday news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Gregory Bernard Staten Jr., of Macon, was cuffed just before 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force office, according to the release.

Staten was booked without bond at the Bibb County jail on charges that include one count of murder and one count of parole violation, according to the release.

The Sept. 2 shooting outside of the club at 4740 Pio Nono Ave. left 29-year-old Aquallo Davis dead.

Staten has been in prison twice since 2011 and has been convicted of drug and dogfighting charges in Jones and Twiggs counties, authorities have said.

The shooting is still being investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68CRIME.
