No bond for alleged Macon gang member in killing of 14-year-old girl

An 18-year-old alleged member of the Bloods gang will remain in jail on murder and aggravated assault charges in the death of 14-year-old Ta'Shuntis "Tootie" Roberts.

Bond was denied Wednesday morning for Terrance Hampton, who went before a judge at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

In the brief hearing, a prosecuting attorney said Hampton admitted to a friend that he planned to shoot up Ta'Shuntis' Lindwood Drive house because of an earlier dispute with someone who was staying there.

Investigators found 21 bullet holes on the outside of the house from the Dec. 13 shooting. Roberts and four others were inside.

One of the juveniles inside told investigators that everyone fell to the floor when they heard gunshots.

"They tried to crawl the best they could to the rear of the house," Assistant District Attorney Larissa Ollivierre told Senior Superior Court Judge Tracy Moulton Jr.

Ta'Shuntis had visible wounds when a sheriff's deputy found her barely conscious in a back bedroom.

She later died in the operating room at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

The unidentified witness also told investigators that on the day Roberts was killed, Hampton and an accomplice went by Roberts' house to make sure the person they were after was there.

The witness said he encountered Hampton again after the shooting, and Hampton asked if the friend had seen the news coverage.

"We got the wrong person," Hampton allegedly told the friend.

Authorities are still searching for a second suspect, Ollivierre said.

Attorney Paul Christian filed a motion Dec. 21 seeking bond for Hampton. That was the same day as his arrest.

He wrote that he, Hampton and Hampton's mother had met at a Macon Waffle House that morning, preparing for Hampton to surrender himself to authorities that afternoon.

At about noon, when Christian, Hampton and Hampton's mother were leaving -- with the intent for Hampton to turn himself in -- members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrived and took Hampton into custody, according to the motion.

Christian pointed out that Hampton was fully cooperating with investigators and should be granted bond.

Christian also questioned the validity of the witness, who might be another gang member trying to pin the killing on Hampton.

Ollivierre noted that Hampton already was on bond on charges of possession of a sawed-off shotgun and a forged gun carry permit about a month before the shooting.

Moulton said that considering the serious charges of murder and five counts of aggravated assault, Hampton would continue to be held without bond.
